Our End-Time Assignments

God made man for an assignment. We will never feel significant or our life worthwhile without it. When we find and fulfill it, then we can die fulfilled. I knew a man who did not know what to do with his life. He kept on dreaming and planning about the future. After twenty years I met him again. He had not finished his house, he had not gotten married, and had not had children. After a few years, I heard he passed way without ever fulfilling his dreams.

Core Preparation- God wants us to prepare for our lifetime assignment. The most basic preparation is to become His “son” in a spiritual relationship (John 1:12) through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ our Savior and Lord. Being naturally a “son of the Devil” (John 8:44) cannot conform us to that plan. A radical change through spiritual renewal from God’s Spirit is the only answer (John 3:3,5). From there we increase our knowledge about Him (John 3:30), while we lessen our view of ourselves. Then we will realize that we have been “chosen and appointed to go and bear fruit” (John 15:16). Indeed we are saved to serve.

Core Message- No message is surer than the gospel that Jesus Christ died on the cross in order to save us from our sins (Luke 19:10). This gospel must be told to the whole world (Matthew 28:19, 20) in the Power of the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:8) and in the comprehensive context of the coming kingdom of God (Matthew 3:2).

Core Character- As messengers we are told to “be wise as serpents and harmless as doves,” (Matthew 10:16). Be righteous in everything you do, but don’t be foolish. Be transparent in your motives, be competent in your vocation, and be dependent on God completely. And do your work with dignity and grace as a divine “ambassador” (2 Corinthians 5:20).

Core Priority- As kingdom builders, we are setting up God’s kingdom in men’s hearts that will set the stage for His actual kingdom in the future (Matthew 6:33) while we still live in Satan’s wicked kingdom of this world (2 Corinthians 4:4). This work is first among equals and one that fires us up from the depths of our being while doing our natural and personal responsibilities in life.

Core Attitude- We trust God fully- His plans, His truth, His will. He is in control of everything every moment so that we fear nothing within His will. We will do anything possible to bring a lost soul to Him (Matthew 10:8-42).

Core Method- There is no method greater than total commitment and a love so great that is willing to take up one’s cross and follow Christ (Matthew 10:38).

Two years ago I resigned from my pastorate of 13 years and transferred to my present ministry in Mandaue City. On day one I felt lonely and empty because I seemed to have nothing more to do and that my life was useless. But after one week, the Lord revived my heart and my work became exciting again. My new work gave me a new surge of significance beyond my wildest dreams.

True joy is found in finding our life assignment and doing it with all our might.
