Fulfilling A Beautiful Dream

Years ago the Grace Baptist Church of Mandaue, Cebu was only a dream, an idea in the mind and a prayer. But work started when I requested the professionals from GBC Cebu City, especially those working in Lapulapu and Mandaue to start meeting every Sunday evening under the leadership of Brother Joseph Gimang in 2006. They met regularly at the Jollibee, Mandaue every Sunday evening. Later, in order to save money they transferred to the Process Innovations office, a business of Brother Nestor Macorol of Marikina Baptist Church, located along the highway to the north.

We resigned from GBC Cebu City by the end of March 2008 and transferred to the Pedro Guido house in Labogon Road Mandaue City that first week of April. When Sunday came, Mandaue families and professionals started meeting in that house every Sunday for worship in the morning and evening. There was Prayer Meeting every Wednesday evening and choir practice on Saturday evening. The first VBS classes were held later that month. A small school building was also constructed in the garden of the compound where a Playschool was opened in June. Cheryl Despi and Mary Ann Gabisan taught the children. Brother Joseph Gimang, though employed as an engineer, served as Assistant Pastor.

We overflowed the Guido house during Sunday morning after one year so that we asked the Lord for a bigger meeting place in 2009. We were guided to rent a room in the second floor of the Diamond Plaza building in Maguikay, Mandaue along the north highway, about 250 meters away from Super Metro Mandaue, and the road going to Mactan Airport. This commercial complex houses medical clinics, a bank and other shops. By the month of June we decided to add another room to our meeting place. Playschool at the parsonage continued with Cheryl Despi and Mrs. Crissy Cadavos as teachers while the new playschool at the Diamond Plaza was taught by teachers Mary Ann and Miss Mimi Bacomo. Teacher Cheryl returned to professional work in 2010 and Sheila Magadan took her place while serving as Bible worker at the same time. At the Diamond Plaza, intern students Jemima Misa from Leyte and Maricris Daroy from Davao taught the Playschool. Worship thrived at this new location and aside from Wednesday Prayer Meeting the church also met for prayer on Saturday evening before choir practice.

In June 2011, Jemima Misa accepted the call to be a teacher and Bible worker also. She now maintains the playschool in the church.

After five years, GBC Mandaue is now a growing young church of Jesus Christ. In her struggles she can testify about the following: This is God’s church and He can sustain it through the years as she serves faithfully: Our workers serve only under the direction and approval of the Lord. May they serve continually under the code of obedience until He comes. Our members serve only under the approval and faithfulness of the Lord. May they remain obedient, humble and loyal to His will. Finally, the work is great and we will continue to do our part with joy trusting in His power until He comes.
