One of man’s most important goals in life is to put God number one in all of life. No goal is more important, more satisfying, and more encompassing than this. Though many people in the world today do not look at life this way, it does not change the truth.

Putting God first means placing my full trust in Him. That means I will have to acknowledge that my help in this life comes from Him alone as asserted in Psalm 121. I am assured when I trust Him because He is my unsleeping guardian, my unfailing protection and my assurance concerning all the needs of my life. The thought about my “coming and going” is spoken in military context meaning that as I go through life’s battles he is with me as I go and as I return.

“I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills. From whence cometh my help? My help cometh from the Lord who made heaven and earth. He will not suffer thy foot to be moved; he who keepeth thee will not slumber. Behold, he who keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord is thy keeper; the Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand. The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil; he shall preserve thy soul. The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even forevermore.”(Psalm 121:1-8)

I also need to put Him first in my home as taught in Psalm 127. He is the one who builds my house, raises my children in His care, and blesses my home as I put Him in first place there. I ought to raise my children as God’s heritage and rewards for me.

“Except the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain that build it; except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain. It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows; for so he giveth his beloved sleep. Lo, children are an heritage from the Lord; and the fruit of the womb is his reward. As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man, so are children of one’s youth. Happy is the man who hath his quiver full of them; they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gates.” Psalm 127:1-5

Finally, I need to trust God in all areas of my life. Then I will be as secure as Mt. Zion which cannot be defeated because God promised His assurance. I will also be restored in peace and quietness as Jerusalem and my life be restored as streams renew the desert (Psalm 128).

“Blessed is everyone that feareth the Lord, that walketh on his ways. For thou shalt eat the labor of thine hands; happy shalt thou be, and it shall be well with thee. Thy wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the sides of thine house; thy children like olive plants round about thy table. Behold, that thus shall the man be blessed who feareth the Lord. The Lord shall bless thee out of Zion, and thou shalt see the good of Jerusalem all the days of thy life. Yea, thous shalt see thy children’s children, and peace upon Israel.” Psalm 128:1-6

As I put God first in all areas of my life I will have amazing experiences, wonderful assurance and blessing from Him. In a dangerous world our security in God is assured and the success of our future is sure.
